About FCWP

Fighting Cancer With Poetry preceded the formation of The Poet Life and was once a non-profit organization. It was inspired by Justin Izlar, the beloved childhood friend of the founder of The Poet Life, Christoph Jenkins. He was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in 2005, when he was 18 and lost his battle on January 2, 2012, when he was 25 years old. His 7 year battle with sarcoma is exemplary of optimism and perseverance. Justin began to write poetry after his diagnosis. Although Justin is no longer with us, he believed that you shouldn't leave this earth without leaving something behind that can potentially change someone's life for the better. And indeed, he did just that.

During Justin’s battle with cancer, started writing inspirational poetry that helped him through the difficult times. Justin didn’t just write for himself, he believed that you shouldn’t leave this earth without leaving something behind that can potentially change someone’s life for the better. His poetry is what he left behind.
